What happens when a subscription payment fails?
When a subscription payment fails, usually because of an expired card, insufficient funds, or a bank decline, your payment provider flags the subscription as past due and queues a retry. Most platforms notify the customer, attempt the charge again over the next few days, and pause access to the service if the retries don't succeed. Catching these failures with smart retries and dunning emails is one of the biggest levers for reducing involuntary churn.
